📊 Why the Urgency?

Scotland's homes are among the worst insulated in Europe, losing heat three times faster than the average. With 84% of homes still reliant on fossil fuel heating, decarbonising residential properties is essential for achieving climate goals.

### 🌍 How Does It Work? Electric wallpaper (developed by University of Glasgow) combines copper strips and graphene or carbon to conduct electricity. Installed on ceilings, it emits infrared heat, warming rooms efficiently without gas heating up in only 1-3 minutes, improving air quality, and reducing risks of damp and mould.

🛠️ Innovation in Action

The trial is being monitored using IoT and AI-enabled data analytics, tracking energy use and comfort levels. Early feedback from tenants has been very positive, with reports of improved warmth and reduced costs.

🔄 A Step Toward Net Zero

The project is one of eight research collaborations supporting Scotland's net zero ambitions. Backed by the Scotland Beyond Net Zero coalition, these initiatives explore sustainable solutions across energy, transport, and food systems.
